Matt, the lead singer and key songwriter for Luv Dot Gov, created an 8-bit version for their song “Helsinki” long before we started talking about doing a video. But as soon as I heard it, I knew we had to make a video game music video. I created all the assets in the video on a (tiny) Photoshop canvas, then used a combination of After Effects and Character Animator to bring the video to life. When Jewel sang “Who will saaa-eee-aa-ve your soul?” I’m sure she never imagined it’d be a power-pop indie band.
